Hi Guys,

Just wondering if the D5 will leave any form of residue after being applied to audio connections?.  The reason for my question is because I need the connections to be absolutely free of residue to apply the Furutech Nano liquid.  I have heard somewhere else that the D5 do leave some residue and to use surgical spirit afterwards.  Any feedbacks appriciated in advance.

Thanks.

Question, is the purpose of putting the Furutech liquid for improving performance?  Have you tried it before?

Our treatment for maximum performance on contact surfaces would be a two step approach - with 55 years of experience.

a) Bring back existing surface to as new - using DeoxIT D-Series Contact Cleaner.  It dissolves oxides and contaminants on the surface.

b) Then use the DeoxIT Gold G-Series to enhance, improve conductivity (it fills in the gaps also), and provides long lasting protection (abrasion, oxidation, RFI, etc.) on the surface.

Perhaps do a side-by-side test.  Test after treament and then six months later.  You will be surprised.

Oh, yes, DeoxIT will leave a very thin residue - it is designed to do so.  Use OMS or IPA to remove.

Thanks Mark,

Will surgical spirit remove the residue left by the D5 and what are OMS or IPA?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by surgical spirit?

OMS is odorless mineral spirits (evaporates slowly)

IPA is isopropyl alcohol (use 99.9% pure - electrronic grade)

Surgical spirit is also known as Rubbing alcohol. Text below taken from wikipedia.

Rubbing alcohol, USP / B.P. is a liquid prepared and used primarily for topical application. It is prepared from a special denatured alcohol solution and contains 97.5-100% by volume of pure, concentrated ethanol (ethyl alcohol)[1]. Individual manufacturers can use their own "formulation standards" in which the ethanol content usually ranges from 70-99% v/v.[2] In the UK the equivalent skin preparation is surgical spirit which is always based on an ethyl alcohol-methyl alcohol mixture.

The term "rubbing alcohol" has become a general non-specific term for either isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) or ethyl alcohol (ethanol) rubbing-alcohol products. The confusion comes from the greater popularity of isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and as a result, individuals requesting "rubbing alcohol" generally expect and get an isopropyl alcohol product.

Should be OK, just do not apply to any absorbant materials.  IPA does have water content and is a conductive material - may cause shorts if not used properly or fully evaporate from materials.
